EASY BATHROOM MAKEOVERS

Posted February 21, 2009

Transform your bathroom into a tranquil refuge, with ideas from cutting-edge designer Clodagh.

Beauty heals.
Place something beautiful—like a blooming orchid or waterproof art—in your sight line when you soak in the tub. Wherever you look, your eyes should feast on something pleasurable.

Organization calms.
Give each person his or her own shelf for toiletries; at the very least, divide the sexes so males won't have to fumble through female cosmetics. Or organize toiletries in woven baskets that make design statements.

Sound invigorates.
Put audio speakers in the ceiling to feel as if you are washing under a rainfall of your favourite music. Cheaper option: hang a waterproof radio from the shower nozzle.

Light supports.
If you spend a lot of time in the tub, install dimmer lights for a sensual experience. Place mirrors with lights on either side for applying makeup. Line shelves with scented candles like Glade® 2 in 1 Candles.

Water soothes.
Install a tabletop water fountain or waterfall showerhead to create the soothing vibes that only nature can bring.

Fire warms.
Consider radiant heat in your floor to warm cold tiles on chilly mornings. A heated towel rack is a simple way to add a sensual touch.

Air frees.
Keep air moving freely with cross ventilation, ceiling fans and open windows.

Luxury delights.
Invest in the best terry cloth or cotton robes you can find. Nothing is more like the spa than wrapping up after a steamy bath or shower. Clodagh loves to present houseguests with their own robes as a cozy, useful present.
